Snowed in

Emma is in NZ for a Science Forum . They flew into Christchurch on Friday afternoon. They were meant to bus to Dunedin Saturday. Late Sat afternoon I received a text from her saying they were stuck in Oamaru overnight as the road was closed. Poor kid. Haven’t heard whether they made it today or not.
I have a very good friend who lives in Oamaru so I rang her and she went and caught up with Emma and her friends and made sure they were ok. Of all places for Emma to stop she had to stop in the one town in the South Island that I have a friend living in!
Heres hoping their week gets better.

Midwinter Christmas…well sort of

I have had a real busy time lately with work and kids activities and sorting out our trip to NZ. Anyway I didn’t realise that the shortest day was looming. My friend Leanne blogged about having a midwinter Christmas dinner to celebrate the solstice. I thought what a good idea but was so busy Friday and Saturday that I had no time to go get a turkey. Hadn’t even ordered one. Both boys played soccer really early yesterday morning and Emma had work so by lunchtime I was at home doing chores. This on a Sunday in winter for me never happens! Anyway I decided to go looking for a turkey to do a roast. Well after three shops no turkeys could be found…not even frozen ones. So I bought a leg of lamb for the boys and managed to find two turkey drumsticks for Emma and I.
I cooked pumpkin, potato, carrots and I did a lovely Cauliflower bake with cheese sauce. For dessert we had apple pie and chocolate ice cream with cream as well.
For a quick slapped up meal it wasn’t too bad. Now onto getting some garlic and planting it…..Oh boy its never ending.
I did manage to get some really obscure chores done this weekend though. You know the ones that you really do but after a while they begin to annoy you so much. Well I did a couple of those…cleaned the fan in the bathroom, got cobwebs out of laundry etc.. I even mowed the lawns…first time in probably a year! Now to get to my sewing pile…ha!

I am still knitting madly for Emma. Have run out of wool and am now waiting for two balls to arrive via snail mail. Have two weeks to get it finished.
